How It Works: Mobile CapTel: iPhone

Hamilton Mobile CapTel works on any iPhone 3G/3GS. All that is required is an iPhone compatible headset — wired or bluetooth. The headset allows you to listen and speak, while still being able to see the captions of what is being said on your iPhone screen.

Now you can choose to read captions from the Safari browser or from the Hamilton Mobile CapTel App on your iPhone!


Hamilton Mobile CapTel iPhone App:

To download the App, simply visit the App Store and search for Hamilton Mobile CapTel. The App is free and you will be able to access it 24/7. Don't wait - download the App today!

Once you have downloaded the App, you will be asked to enter your Hamilton Web CapTel Username and Password. Simply enter your information and you will be ready to make and receive calls immediately.

Not a registered Hamilton Web CapTel User? In order to process your Hamilton Mobile CapTel calls securely and accurately, you must have an active Hamilton Web CapTel account. This simple, one-time process will guide you through the necessary steps in registering your account.

Note: Additional enhancements for Hamilton Mobile CapTel are forthcoming for the iPad™ with WiFi and iPod Touch™. Upon launching the App on your iPad or iPod Touch, simply enter the phone number of the phone you will use when placing and receiving Mobile CapTel calls.

Placing Calls:

From the Hamilton Mobile CapTel iPhone App call screen, enter the number of the person you wish to call in the "Number to Dial" box. To select a number directly from your iPhone's contact list, simply click on "Contacts" at the bottom of the screen. Be sure that your headset is properly connected and ready to use.

After placing the call, you will automatically be taken to the Captions screen where you will connect with the captioning service. Your iPhone 3G/3GS will ring, notifying you that you have received a call from the Mobile CapTel Call Center. Once you answer, the phone number of the person you wish to call will automatically dial.

In order to start the application and begin viewing the captions of your conversation, you must press the "Home" button on your iPhone 3G/3GS, followed by the "Hamilton Mobile CapTel App" button.

When the person you are calling answers, you can listen to what is being said while reading the captions on the screen. If your call is answered by a message system, the message will be captioned and you will be able to leave your message accordingly.

You can end your call at anytime by hanging up or clicking the "End Call" button on your screen.

To save your conversation, simply click on "Save Call".

Receiving Calls:

When a person calls you, they must first dial the Mobile CapTel Call Center at 800-933-7219, enter your mobile number, then press the # sign. Be sure that the "Receive Calls" button, located on the Call screen of your iPhone 3G/3GS, is turned "on" or you will not be able to receive captioned calls.

When you answer the call, politely ask the person calling to wait a moment while you activate the captions on your screen. Press the "Home" button on your iPhone 3G/3GS, followed by the "Hamilton Mobile CapTel App" button to start the application and begin viewing captions.

You can end your call at anytime by hanging up or by clicking the "End Call" button on your screen.

To save your conversation, simply click on "Save Call".

If you are not receiving captions, double check that your caller has first dialed into the Mobile CapTel Call Center at 800-933-7219.


Hamilton Mobile CapTel on the iPhone Safari Browser:

Mobile CapTel Registration

Already a registered Hamilton Web CapTel User? Using the Safari web browser on your iPhone 3G/3GS, go to http://www.hamiltonwebcaptel.com. Simply enter your Hamilton Web CapTel Username and Password and touch the Logon button. Your Profile and Contacts will be available and you can start receiving captions immediately.

Not a registered Hamilton Web CapTel User? In order to process your Hamilton Mobile CapTel calls securely and accurately, you must first Register and create your account. This is a simple, one-time process.

Click here to begin the Registration Process.

Simply complete the Registration Form and click on the "Submit" button. Once you have submitted the On-line Registration Form, you will receive a verification e-mail. Simply click on the link provided in the verification e-mail or copy and paste the link into any web browser. You will be directed to an Account Verification web page. That's it! You're ready to start placing and receiving calls using your iPhone 3G/3GS or your computer.

Using the Safari web browser on your iPhone 3G/3GS, go to http://www.hamiltonwebcaptel.com. Enter your Username and Password and press the Logon button.

Need to change your Registration information? The information that you provide during the Registration process is always available via the Profile tab in the main menu. Just login and you can change your Profile at anytime.

Placing a Mobile CapTel Call

To place a Hamilton Mobile CapTel call, go to http://www.hamiltonwebcaptel.com using the Safari web browser on your iPhone 3G/3GS. Enter your Username, Password and touch the Logon button.

Once you are logged in, you will be directed to the Place Calls page. You can now place your call by entering your telephone number and the number you want to call. Then touch the "Place Call" button (be sure that your headset is properly connected and activated for use on your iPhone 3G/3GS).

Your iPhone 3G/3GS will ring with a call from the Mobile CapTel Call Center. Once you answer, the person you are calling will be dialed automatically. In order to view the captions on your iPhone, you must press the Home button on your iPhone and then touch the Safari web browser button along the bottom of the screen. This should return you to the Hamilton Mobile CapTel web page, where you will then be able to read the captions of everything the person you're calling says. You will also see details of your call in progress (i.e. the number of rings, etc.)

When the person you are calling answers, you can listen to what is being said and you'll be able to read the captions on screen. If your call is answered by a message system, the message will be captioned and you can leave a message accordingly.

You can end your call at anytime by hanging up or clicking on the "End Call" button on your iPhone 3G/3GS screen.

Place a Mobile CapTel Call Now!
  1. Go to: http://www.hamiltonwebcaptel.com
    Using the Safari web browser on your iPhone 3G/3GS, go to the above address, enter your username, password and touch the "Logon" button.
  2. Type in your telephone number.
    This is the telephone number associated with your iPhone 3G.
  3. Type in the Number to Dial.
    This is the telephone number of the person you wish to call.
  4. Click on the Place Call button.
  5. Answer your phone when it rings.
    The Mobile CapTel Call Center will call you first, and then call the number you entered.
  6. Return to the Safari web browser
    Once you have answered your phone, press the "Home" button on your iPhone 3G/3GS and then immediately touch the Safari web browser button.
  7. Talk, smile, laugh, listen and see what they say.
Receiving a Mobile CapTel Call

Receiving calls with Hamilton Mobile CapTel is easy. Once you have logged in at http://www.hamiltonwebcaptel.com, touch the "Receive Calls" tab and enter your iPhone 3G/3GS telephone number. Then touch the "Start Waiting For Calls" button.

When you receive a call, you must first answer the call and then press the "Home" button on your iPhone 3G/3GS and then immediately touch the Safari web browser button. Your Web browser screen should then present the captions of what the caller is saying.

Please Note: In order to receive captions through Mobile CapTel, the person calling you must first dial the Web CapTel Call Center at 1-800-933-7219 and then enter your number directly, ending with the pound (#) sign. This is a toll-free 800 number, so there are no additional charges to you or the person calling you. And the benefit is a clear, a readable and understanable conversation.

Managing Your Mobile CapTel Contacts

Once you have logged in at http://www.hamiltonwebcaptel.com, touch the "Contacts" tab at the bottom of the screen. From here, you can manage both "My Contacts" and "My Call Back Numbers".

My Contacts

Touch "My Contacts" and you will be directed to a list of current contacts. You can then edit current contacts or add new ones. This is your personal phone book for Hamilton Mobile CapTel. And if you also use Hamilton Web CapTel, these numbers will appear either on your iPhone or your computer whenever you log in to Hamilton Mobile CapTel or Hamilton Web CapTel respectively.

My Call Back Numbers

Touch "My Call Back Numbers" and you will be directed to a list of phone numbers where you can be reached. If you have not yet entered any numbers, you can add as many numbers as you would like (i.e. Home, Work, Mobile, etc.).

Calling 911 with Hamilton Mobile CapTel

Internet-based telecommunications services are limited services and are not designed for making emergency 911 calls. Therefore, it is highly recommend that in an emergency you use your land-line telephone service to call 911 or your local emergency service number directly.

If you choose to use Hamilton Mobile CapTel to place an emergency 911 call, you will need to provide important information immediately, including your location (street address, town, and state) as well as the nature of the emergency.

Your call will be connected to your local emergency center, which is prepared to assist you in your emergency. The Hamilton Mobile CapTel Call Center is not an emergency call center and does not assume responsibility for the call.
